March Madness Megamiler! Tupper Lake, northward

Inn on Piseco Lake

After a frigid start, Monday was going to be a magnificent ride day!

I wanted to pile on easy miles in the sun. Tupper Lake got the call.

Got rolling from Washington Street parking lot shortly after 9am. Things appeared good from the get-go with a recent groom.

Tupper Lake to Charlie’s Inn

C7 was a nice stretch through the avenue. Scattered long-wave low rollers with a few tall ones. But the groom had eliminated studder bump and chop for a fast ride.

Charlie’s Inn to Dannemora

It was on to C7/Pole Dancing!

Conditions ranged from smooth to slight studder-ripple for miles. Flat out awesome riding from Meacham Lake exit ramp to FRAN 6 intersection.

C8A/Wolf Pond Road had stretches of ski chatter into Lyon Mountain, with several deep moguls past Dollhouse.

Viewing conditions from the lookout were AMAZING!

C8A from Lyon Mountain to Dannemora was 17 miles of heaven. Actually, 34 if you count round trip miles.

OHHHHH YEAH!!!!!!

After a fuel stop at Iron Ore Market in Lyon Mountain, we wanted to run S88 to Ellenburg. Started decent, then the stretch along Route 374 to Owlyout was awfully rough and bumpy. Was hoping for a fresh groom on the other side of the highway, but found more bumpy misery ahead. We turned tail back to C8A/Wolf Pond Road and C7.

More Pole Dancing on C7 with good times through Sugarloaf exit into Mountain View.

Bridge in Mountain View was CLOSED. We had to take the long way around on the roadside. Very unfriendly on the slides.

C7/Mountain View to Owls Head was bumpy in places, but S78 was good to Trailside Bar and Grill.

Lunch

We had ridden over 4 hours at this point. So, warming up and getting a bite to eat became a really good idea.

Smash burger with cheddar cheese and bacon with a side of sweet potato fries did the trick!

After lunch, we were ready to rip more miles!

To Malone and Ellenburg

C7 was great riding between Owls Head and Titus Mountain exit ramp.

Rest of the way to Malone Junction became bumpy at times with some really deep moguls near the power poles.

C8C through Burke was chattery on the skis with a few deep moguls. Even a couple of messy ice spots. We stuck with it and got rewarded with great riding through Chateauguay.

One of the flat sections, but you can see evidence of strong late-winter sun at work.

Jr was feeling it!

Great times continued on S87 and S88. After we turned onto S88A, riding became bumpy at times on C8F to Ellenburg.

Back to Malone, Tupper Lake

After a fuel stop at Mountain Mart in Ellenburg, we decided to roll it back to Malone Junction, then C7 it back to Tupper Lake.

Figured the best way would be to run S87 straight through the gut and get back to the good stuff. Bump and grind at times to start. Then we hit a fresh groom for several awesome miles before overtaking the groomer.

C7 from Malone Junction thru Teboville and Titus Mountain exit ramp was BUMPY with deep moguls in places. Improvement came in stretches as we rode into the night.

BOOM! We hit a fresh groom south of Meacham Lake exit ramp. Night riding at its finest!

We overtook the groomer, then hit another fresh groom from Rainbow Lake through Gabriels to Charlie’s Inn. Yeah!!

Picked up ANOTHER fresh groom in Lake Clear that passed over (mostly) gentle long-wave low rollers on C7 back to Tupper Lake.

Ended up with 259 miles by the time we got back to Washington Street parking lot in Tupper Lake.

Ohhhhh, what a day!

Bottom line

Just grabbing the best March has to offer before rain and hurt hits Wednesday! One of the biggest one day rides I’ve done. My favorite road trip come through again.
