Contrary to some of the h-opium flying around, snow cover is NOT advancing rapidly over Northern Hemisphere. It's in fact, 13% less than climatology for the date.

Despite noise of sudden stratospheric warming events, El Niño will be the dominant player this winter. Could this one play out a bit different than other super strong El Niño events? Sure! All winters are unique to themselves - even when they can be placed into general buckets.

My concern for this upcoming winter hasn't been about lack of seasonal snowfall for central Adirondacks. It has always been about elevated risk of warmups/thaws and rains in between the cold/snowy spells. That is a hallmark of ALL strong El Niño events for our neck of the woods.

Until proven otherwise, that's the horse I'm going to ride.
