Charlie’s Inn to Malone, AGAIN!

Inn on Piseco Lake

Tuesday’s ride got me off the pine for the first time in nearly two weeks. A fresh 2-3 inches by Wednesday morning had me ready to go!

This time, I was able to get Darrin Jr. to blow off work and ride with me. I told him that he was gonna like it, a lot!

Flurries were in the air as we drove to Charlie’s Inn. After we started riding, leftover flurries ended and clouds parted to reveal a sunny late-winter’s day, just perfect for riding!

Starting off

C7 northward from Charlie’s Inn hadn’t been groomed yet and ranged from nearly smooth to small studders under the fresh snow. There was few mile long section south of Mountain View that was “bumpier” than the rest. But most of the straight arrow power lines sections were fast riding. We were out there enjoying life!

The sight lines opened up as we approached Malone and the sun was out bright by late morning.

Once in Malone, we took C8C. And WOW! It started a snowmobiling superhighway from the get-go and great riding continued for MILES.

We blasted across farm fields, through pipeline roads and small wooded sections. As we pressed passed Chateauguy, trail conditions became thinner and we began to clip rocks.

After we got into Clinton County and conditions thinned further, we decided to turn around after reaching this unique store near Churubusco. This store had it all, in spades: 1000 guitars and 1000 guns.

We more more than happy to back track through all of the awesome riding we had done on C8C back to Malone. Once back into town, we hung out at the graffiti mural for a few minutes.

Trail around Malone to Mo’s Pub and Grill was bumpy and rough in places, and the fields were really thin. But we made it to the prize and a platter of nachos. This time, Darrin Jr was around to help me with this one before my fajita skillet arrived.

The way back to Charlie’s

For the first several miles, there were some bumps from the day’s traffic. But conditions on C7 improved as we pressed deeper into the Adirondacks.

We encountered two oncoming groomers and the final 20-25 miles back to truck were white magic carpet riding. I had been stupid and didn’t refuel today, even as I passed by gas stations along the way. I didn’t cost me, but I got a little nervous until I got to Gabriels. Then I knew that I’d make it back to Charlie’s – or darned close anyway.

Ended the afternoon with 136 miles and the magic carpet ride back to the truck sealed the deal on a great day of snowmobiling. Great father and son riding stuff!

I told you I’d be back…

Bottom line

We know the s#it-burger that’s coming Sunday. Don’t over think this. Indian Lake picked up another 3 inches of snow Wednesday night. Grab your favorite snowmobiling place that still has rideable snow and have at it Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

Even though I’m far from convinced the snowmobiling season would be done for good after Sunday in ilsnow land, it’s always best to grab what’s in front of you now. Let tomorrow take care of itself later.

For the ilsnow nation,

Darrin
