Midweek Snowmobiling Outlook: Update 12/12/16

Inn on Piseco Lake

Early Monday’s snow event dropped 2 inches of snow in Indian Lake. The Route 8 Corridor did better with about 5 inches in Speculator and 7.5 inches in Morehouse.

As a nice little bonus, I picked up a quick inch of snow at the ilsnow storm center Monday evening. Snow pack is in the 6-12 inch range for much of the central Adirondacks. Some places over the southwestern Adirondacks hold over a foot of snow. Not a bad place to be in mid-December. 🙂

No widespread snowstorms are expected this week, but lake-effect snows will continue to add onto the pile. Brutally cold weather will hit us for Thursday and Friday.

Midweek Outlook:

Moose River Plains is the place to hit. People have been riding from the Brown’s farm at the end of Cedar River Road into Moose River Plains and over to Inlet. Expect ride-able, but typical early season low base conditions. Just remember to bring $5 per sled to park at Brown’s farm.

There is enough snow for the locals to pound their way around the Indian Lake local trails, but I can’t recommend trying to ride the 18 mile stretch of Trail C8 from town out to Cedar River Headquarters. Our trails need much more snow to cover the large rocks and the swampy spots are still eating the snow away from underneath.

Much of Perkins Clearing is plowed for logging, but I hear that plowing will end for the north end of Perkins Clearing Road after December 17th. I don’t know anything about the logging/plowing status inside the Speculator Tree Farm.

Powley Road certainly has enough snow to scratch the itch. That could give you some miles of smiles. 🙂

STAY OFF THE LAKES! They have enough snow on them to hide the fact they hold very thin ice.

Just use some common sense and you should be able to pick out a decent ride this week. Traffic will probably be pretty light.

For the ilsnow nation,

Darrin
