Indian Lake ended up with 2-3 inches of fluffy snow. Based on webcams showing over 6 inches of new snow in the western Adirondacks, I would say that Moose River Plains did well.
UPDATE 12/11/16: Unfortunately, I heard news directly from Lake Pleasant that the north end of Perkins Clearing Road and Military Road are still closed due to logging, notwithstanding DEC’s announcement that the Perkins Clearing Gates are open. So, I would suspect that not much of Perkins is up for riding at the moment.
UPDATE 12/9/16: DEC confirmed that Moose River Plains is OPEN!
I placed a call to DEC to confirm whether the gates have been opened to Moose River Plains. Was only able to leave a voicemail, but I can say that I saw a lot of DEC trucks and snowmobile trailers headed out toward Cedar River this morning. Where there is smoke, there may be fire. 😉
Old Forge & Inlet are ready for action this weekend with snowmobile riding already going on there. You can click the picture below from the Ole Barn to see a fun time lapse movie:
You can also look for the sleds at Hamilton County Choppers, my favorite web cam addiction!
If you decide to ride this weekend, be wary of the typical early-season water and fallen tree hazards. Take it easy on that first ride!
BOTTOM LINE: Don’t expect deep-base, mid-season conditions. We’re dealing with starter snows here.
Don’t bother with the local Indian Lake or Speculator trails yet. Let the locals have fun beating their sled up a bit on them.
And…stay off the lakes!
