Looking at the webcams it sure looks ugly out there.
We’ll cover up the ugly stuff on Friday. š

Darrin @ ilsnow.comKeymasterIām still a weekend rider, but only a few more years until I retire and can enjoy the luxury of weekday riding.
You won’t regret retirement and mid-week riding.

Darrin @ ilsnow.comKeymasterThis is a bit late, but I said I would post my ride report if I got out over the weekend so here goes:
I had some chores to do on Saturday that had to be done so my riding time was limited. I did manage to sneak in a quick ~50 mile ride around Perkins clearing and the tree farm. Big brook trail to Perkins was thin and bumpy. Perkins clearing was mostly good with a couple of icy corners to watch out for. Coming out of Perkins I decided to take the hatchery brook trail to avoid the trail by Melody Lodge and Oak Mtn. It was a rough ride. Ended up making a loop around long level rd and fly creek then back up old rt 30 which was mostly good. Sacandaga and Lake Pleasant were both nice rides ā did not ride any other lakes. We really need more snow to make things great, but there is decent riding out there to be found if you are willing to ride some junk to get there.
Looks like I covered much of your ride on Sunday. Thankfully they had groomed up through Fawn Lake and Big Brook for the return trip via Perkins Clearing.

Darrin @ ilsnow.comKeymasterWe’re long past the bulletin board hay days since Facebook has taken over.
But I’m happy that we do have a few who report here.
Darrin
Darrin @ ilsnow.comKeymasterYes. Perkins Clearing Road is open for snowmobiling from both ends.
Darrin @ ilsnow.comKeymasterMost reports I heard from last weekend from Indian Lake and Lake Pleasant were 6-8 inches of ice. I’m sure it’s getting thicker by the day with the cold snap.
Darrin @ ilsnow.comKeymasterThe cost of EVERYTHING has gone up.
And the time I have left is getting shorter and shorter every year.
Trying to squeeze out a good life in my remaining days.

Darrin @ ilsnow.comKeymasterVery disgusting! I’m not gonna lie….
Darrin
Darrin @ ilsnow.comKeymasterTrigger, pulled!
Not like I was crazy about spending the big cash. But with the miles I do, going into next winter with a sled approaching 14K miles doesn’t seem to be a prudent idea. Too many opportunities for worn components to snap and cost me riding time.
I’ll just need to work less and add more riding days to whatever small winter we get.
Darrin
Darrin @ ilsnow.comKeymasterYes, I’m definitely going 4-stroke with the miles I put on.
Leaning toward the 900 ACE Turbo, Renegade X package in all black.
But it’s all speculation until I pull the lever on the spring order!

Darrin @ ilsnow.comKeymasterGood thing I rode to Ohio last week when it was starting to fall apart.
Darrin
Darrin @ ilsnow.comKeymasterDoubles 2500 a season? Yeah, I wish!
Don’t think I’ll even hit 2500 this season. lol!
Darrin
Darrin @ ilsnow.comKeymasterI was fine with shimmying through the log job as long as the riding is smooth on both sides of it.
Evergreen was great, even as wet as it was by late afternoon. Panther Mountain steam wasn’t cutting into the lake. No mysterious sled swallowing holes either. I’ve had great luck on that pond this winter. Helps when there were basically no thaws after Christmas Eve until now.
Only been down to Mosquito Hill once, like 9 years ago and never past that to Ohio. Would like to try that, but probably won’t be this year.
Going back up through Jones Road was awesome. I’m almost never disappointed with that rip.

Darrin @ ilsnow.comKeymasterRon,
I really don’t know what to say. Saw them grooming Fall Lake trail and down to Piseco on C8 yesterday morning (March 10).
Trail connecting Piseco Lake to Evergreen was pretty good as well. It’s a bit annoying they don’t groom that last little bit down to Evergreen Lake just before where the creek cuts through, but hey….
Gotta say the several times I’ve ridden around Arietta this winter were (mostly) good experiences. But then again, I only ride them when the snow is deep and I’ve heard enough favorable trail reports to give it a shot. We’ve all had rides when the Arietta goat paths were horrible beyond belief.
I wish they could find a way to groom that short section from the north end of Powley Road to Route 10. That got so bumpy and rough, I just said screw it and rode the roadside all the way to Spy Lake trail. I’d rather shave a bit of carbide and slides than break something in the suspension.
Looks like our short season is drawing to a close. The ole 4-TEC is nearing 14K miles, so it’s time spring order a replacement. I’m a bit loathe to plunk down big coin on a sled I barely ride for 2 months now-a-days. But I still love to pile up the miles and smiles.
If these winters get much shorter though, it may be time for me to ditch it and find more ways to enjoy the other 10 months of the year…

Darrin @ ilsnow.comKeymasterThey were grooming all last week. Not sure why the groomer would sit over the weekend.
Anyway, I do thank you for your kind words about my website. It’s always a lot of fun for me.
Enjoy doing the trail reports almost as much as I enjoy riding.
