Saturday March 1st 4 of my friends from Evergreen were on their way back west across Indian in white out conditions about 5 PM. Still light out. My one friend missed the curve going towards the end of the lake and wound up stuck in a deep drift in some cove. No cell service or lights from houses. Burned his belt trying to get out so he waited for the other 3 to come back looking for him . They told me they did look for him so they went on and looked for cell service. They said they went up and down the lake 3 times looking but the wind obscured his tracks. They feared the worse if he went down the other leg into open water. I think they said they got cell service on Lewey Lake or they stopped at a house and called the Hamilton County Sherriff.
The Sherriff notified the, state police, Rangers and them selves went looking. The Piseco Fire Company chief heard about the lost guy on his scanner and found out it was Emerick G. that we all knew so he went out also. They found him at 12:30 that night. He brought him and his sled back to Evergreen
Bottom line==Stay together especially in conditions that they were in. The 3 guys that left him were in my opinion going to fast and are lucky they did not hit one of the shoals or rocks on that lake that are sticking up now. Or worse hit head on another sled going to fast in the opposite direction like what happened several years ago and a rider lost his life.
We all chewed the 3 guys out for their stupidity and not staying closer together. I know how these guys ride and my wife and I do not ride with them anymore.
Wife and I were coming west on Piseco Lake that day and were in those same white out conditions but were only going maybe 30 tops and if I ever lost her you can imagine where I would be today—grounded.
Over for now. Sleds are all the way home now, nice and clean for next season.

PS I have to complement Darin and his son. They are die hard riders. I got 2,000 once about 25 years ago when we rode right into April.
