I’m assuming the larger lakes are not safe yet, but wondering if anyone has checked ice thickness or talked to local ice fishermen to see how ice thickness is looking. Any feedback would be appreciated. Seems like we’ve had some cold nights without a lot of snow insulation, so hoping ice thickness is making some progress while we wait for real snow.
Looking like another 2016 so far…

I’ve heard 8 inches of ice on Adirondack Lake.

Haven’t been on Indian Lake yet. But I know there were people ice fishing near the Town line last weekend, but hadn’t gotten any ice thickness readings from them.

Did get a few seasonably cold nights near zero, so that has certainly made some ice.

This past Sunday–Saw tracks on Lake Pleasant, Ox Bow and Evergreen Lakes Cant say how much ice but Piseco just locked up last Wednesday the 6th. The west end did not look that good–Bare ice and dont know how thick. Panther Mtn stream at the west end is still cutting into the lake for quite a way. Dont forget about the new trail off the lake at the west end. (see my earlier trail report) A lot of ice fishermen at the east end by the island and out into the middle. My friends rode Evergreen onto the Morehouse trails and said it was not to bad considering the amount of snow cover. They are riding the Powley Rd. bare in desperation. Evergreen Lake is very shallow and locked up during huntin season. Morehouse boys are always out there working their trails all year.
    Thank you Morehouse boys.

I saw a permanent fishing house on Indian Lake, by the marina in Sabael.

Evergreen is nothing but slush in the middle as of 1/18/2021. A rider I talked to said…” not safe”! May change after this coming weekends cold temperatures!
    Happy riding!

I rode oxbow, sacandaga and lake pleasant. All had little slush, but very passable. Some said that Indian lake also had slush and that the trail from Sabael into town had lots of mud holes. Perkins was great with the groomer doing his magic. Tree farm and Melody Lodge trail was a real back breaker. Big Brook and Fawn Lake trail was OK.

Took a quick loop on Indian lake on the north end trail access. Didn’t feel safe to me. Mix of snow, slush and frozen slush.

As Happy Trails did, I rode Oxbow, Sacandaga and Lake Pleasant this pass Sat. Talked to a ice fisherman on Pleasant, said they had around 9″. Also hit up Powley Rd, which was awesome!

Nice to hear that ice thickness is building. Looking at several cold nights ahead, so should only get better.

Thanks Ron Trails are in good shape but we’re still dealing with the logging down from HC 14 Talked to the loggers Sat. and they don’t know when they will finish. Didn’t thinks we could gain access till they we’re done. Still trying to gain the new landowners permission to reopen the bypass trail we used last year. As of now we’re using French Rd as a detour. Town has winged back the banks and it’s very rideable. Mosq Hill trail is in fine shape but still a problem getting into Ohio. Maybe this weekend will remedy that. Hoping the slush on Evergreen will set up also. Crossed it Monday nite and you didn’t want to slow down or stop!

    With temperatures consistently below 0
Indian Lake still has water and slush??? It’s passable but it doesn’t feel good going through it.

I did not ride Indian Lake, but I rode pretty much everything local to Lake Pleasant between Saturday and Sunday. Sacandaga was nice and flat and Lake Pleasant and Oxbow were good as well. Piseco Lake was not so good with water and slush in areas. Did not feel good going over Piseco in several spots.

Trails in general were very good over the weekend. If you don’t live in the area and look at the conditions in your backyard you probably think it couldn’t be very good but there is a couple of feet of snow and trails are in nice condition. The base still seems a bit thin in the woods, so more snow would be a nice touch.

Agree–Piseco was very watery in spots Friday nite. My wife does not like slush so we will go around till it gets better.

I crossed Piseco from the new trail behind Piseco Lake Lodge headed (north?) toward Oxbow/Airport end of lake. About 3/4 of the way there is a large wet area. Almost looked like open water but I was not about to slow down to check. It seemed odd that it wasn’t frozen over as it was -12 F Sunday morning and in single digits when I crossed.
