Rode Lake Pleasant area over the weekend. There is a lot more snow now than a week ago and trails were great overall. Saturday was not very cold and the snow was soft with tons of sled traffic so trails were pretty beat up by Saturday night. Cold again by Sunday morning to set the trails up again. Was able to find some freshly groomed trails Sunday morning to make up for the rough stuff Saturday night. Still some slush and frozen ruts in spots on the lakes, so be careful.

Rode pretty much everything around the Lake Pleasant area this past weekend and trails were in great shape. The usual high-traffic trails suffered some abuse on Saturday, but I was able to find plenty of good riding. Weather was beautiful, but that sun is getting higher and who knows how much more time we have – get out and ride!

We rode down Piseco Sunday to the out house then to Fawn Lake and Sacandaga Lake to the OxBow for lunch and back down Piseco. Met the groomers and State Police on the trails and all was OK. Trails were great The trail from Sac to Oxbow was kind of beat but saw it worse. Figured there was a lot of sleds tearing it up both days, but the club will get it back.
Unfortunately on the way back down Piseco my 2016 E-Tec ate a piston. My Skidoo expert said it probably got a tear in the intake manifold boot, leaned it out and ate the piston. He wont know how bad the situation it till he tears it down. Hope the jug can be honed.

Yesterday I only got to ride a few miles to Clay Vly (past Fawn Lake) and back.

Monday I rode a loop Fawn Lake – Big Brook – Jessup River Road – S82 to Mason Lake and back – Hatchery Brook – Speculator. All good until I crossed Elm Lake Road. From there in to Speculator and village trails were somewhat rough. Lakes good in packed tracks but there is slush under the unpacked snow. I regret not stopping at The Inn for dinner. Missed the meat loaf special. 🙁

No riding today (2/24) so far except around the yard and out on the lake to turn around. Packed snow areas seem to still be hard. Some traffic on the lake but seemed light so I doubt much damage. 45° today but as of 5 PM no rain. Trails should be OK and any grooming next few days should be really effective to harden the base for a while longer. But Saturday forecast 39° and rain combined with traffic does not look good for trails.

Did some more riding over the weekend. The rain on Saturday didn’t do too much damage, but it softened up the trails and they sure got beat up by the end of the day. Perkins was the bumpiest I’ve ever ridden it.

Hopefully groomers do their magic before the cold comes in otherwise those bumps are going to set up rock hard. There is still a lot of snow out in the woods.

I was tempted to take a Sunday afternoon rip to Perkins Clearing after work.

    Good thing I didn’t bother.

You would have had a nice ride down Indian Lake, which was in good shape on Saturday, but unless 2 miles of hell and Perkins were groomed Sat night or Sun morning you made the right choice not going.

Left perkins around 530 Sunday night and no grooming at all. Miles and miles of rollers. C4/oak in Speculator was all snirt and dirt in corners. Started raining around 6 🙁

Firehouse lot was still full of trailers too at this time.

I rode all the way around the shoreline of Sacandaga Sunday about 4PM. Surprisingly no significant slush. Lake did not look too bad this morning either. Village trails and LP1 pretty rough Sunday afternoonl. Way to warm and wet to groom. Not worth risking scraping off the snow that is left and won’t set up anyway. Now that the rain has stopped and it is getting colder I think they will be out Trails won’t be quite as nice as when there was lots of cold loose snow, but will set up hard and should withstand this weekend. Let’s hope for some snow and no more rain. We could get in another couple weeks.

I rode Lake Pleasant out to Sacandaga – Fawn Lake – Outhouse – Oxbow Inn – Piseco – Powley – Oxbow – Lake Pleasant last Thursday. Everything was 100% – the groomers out west are getting it done, for sure. Lots of slush on all the lakes if you’re off the beaten path – just keep it pinned and you’ll be fine (just don’t be a Darren and ride alone). Friday went up to Perkins via Sacandaga and found the same conditions everyone else did – pretty rough once you got up past the Fish Mtn trail / Spruce Lake Gate. It was clear that nothing had been done grooming-wise since at least the Monday snow event. The only nice piece of trail was S41C from Perkins Clearing out to Route 30. And that was only because the Whittaker Lake trail is closed, so not much traffic rolling out there (did see one grouse). Stopped for lunch out by the sand pit – stepped off my sled and sunk in up to my thighs. Hopefully that amount of snowpack will hang around for a while.

Has anyone ridden the Lake Pleasant area over the past couple of days to comment on current trail conditions? Wondering if it’s worth trying to get in one last ride this weekend…

We did not ride the Lake Pleasant area but did ride Piseco, OxBow Lake and the trails in between. Considering the thaw we had the trails are holding up pretty darn good. A few warn out spots and one mud hole starting to open up across the Lake from the Ox Bow Inn. Right now there is a by pass to get around it so no problem for now. Dont know about this coming week end.
My friends did get up into Perkins but did not try to get into Spectacular cause they heard from riders in Perkins that the trails facing south into the village have a lot of bare spots and have turned muddy. They came back to Piseco via the Out House trail towards the air port. Even the Big Brook trail from the out house intersection was showing signs of dirt up into Perkins but all ridable. No long distance mud riding.
As far as all of the lakes. We had to hug the snow on the north side of Piseco, watching out for the cricks coming in. Temps were up on the Skidoo e-techs but not my wife’s Polaris Pro S Switchback. No high temp lights.
All the lakes in this area are wind blown bare with patches of snow here and there.
Evergreen is the same and the crick on the east end is OK for now.
If you dont mind a little dirt riding, it should not be to bad for the coming week end. WE are going to try a Mosquito Hill to Ohio run which should be OK as these trails are all in the woods.
PS I heard in the OX Bow this past Friday night that Arietta is through grooming for the season. I hope not.
