As Darrin has said STAY OFF THE ICE, The lakes have not really made enough safe ice to be on them especially is you do not know where the inlets ( Creeks ) and outlets.
Unfortunately the Fulton County Sheriff is still looking for a missing snowmobilier that went thru the ice on Pecks Lake last night. The story is three of them went in and two got out but one of their buddies is missing. This is from one of our friends that live on the lake.
If you look at the web cam on the Irodequoit Inn on Piseco Lake you can see Fall Stream cutting way into the lake towards the island. Thru the 50 years I have been riding this lake there has been several that I know of that went in here, also at the west end of the lake Panther Mtn. stream cuts way into the lake very close to where you have to get off or on. In snow storms you will be swimming for you life on this lake unless you know exactly where you are. I know of several that went in here thru the years. Two of which got out and we got the sleds with ropes, but a couple have had Karl Abrhams (Hamilton Co. Sheriff ) a deep diver get the sleds out a couple of months later in 90 feet of water. Unfortunately THERE WILL BE MORE IN THE WATER THIS WEEK END
STAY OF THE ICE FOR NOW

It was reported on the Albany Channel 13 news at 12 noon today the divers found the body of the snowmobilier that went in Pecks Lake last night. Very sorry and sincere condolences to his family.

This is serious and please stay off the lakes. I lost my sled up in Long Lake NY in 2014 when a friend Mike went in, its not fun to have to get wet, get out and make sure your older friend gets back to land. It really sucked but Im glad we both got out

We Know Jersey Mike very well and were with him that night in the Ox Bow talking about his ordeal. We was very lucky to be alive as he said he felt himself falling asleep while in the water hanging on to the ice. The good ol boys from the Long Lake Fire Company has a air boat and got him out. He was in the water for nearly an hour. He has a camp in Evergreen and we see him quite often. Our camp is up on the mountain thru Evergreen and we own the swamp where you get on and off of the lake here.

Long Lake has open water north of the Route 30 bridge all the way across the lake, cutting across where the snowmobile drag strip usually is by mid-winter.

I’m not in any hurry to ride lakes.
