From the web cam at the Irondequiote Inn on Piseco it looks like its at least froze out to the first camp site but I would not try to walk out on it just yet. When I see ice fishermen out on it I’ll let you know how much ice they are cutting at least to this point. The rest of the lake takes a lot more below zero to get it safe. It is 129 feet deep and freezes last of all the lakes here.
My friend Pete N. lives on Sacandaga Lake and sez he cut 8 inches in the bay in front of his camp. He did not say how far out he went into the main part of the lake so you had better wait till you see ice fishermen out there.

Just received word C4 from is closed from the post office/ town offices down to the flow due to landowner issues. As of now there is no reroute. Going out today and tomorrow to put up closure signs and attempt to find a reroute. Will try and keep you posted.January 6, 2025 at 11:40 am #25610500ssParticipantLooking for ice conditions on Lake Pleasant and Sagandaga with the recent cold. Any locals or ice fishermen with recent intel?

They were cutting only about 6″ by the first camp site ( Popular Point ) by the Irondequiot Inn of Piseco and they were only out about 100 yards. I would not venture out much past this near the center as that freezes last cause its 129 feet deep. Irondequoit Bay at the west end looked OK but no fishermen or sled tracks and Panther Mtn. stream cut into the lake for about 100 yards. We came by Lake Pleasant and saw no fishermaen on the ice or any sled tracks. Dont know any thing about Sacandaga Lake except for the bays which are froze
They are riding Oxbow Lake and Evergreen as they are shallow and freeze first
We talked to some kids that came from the Stratford end of the Powley Rd and said the trails are horrible ( mud Holes) on C8 over Jacks Hill from Spy Lake and the Powley Rd only had 2 sleds wide and bumpy. Arietta is not grooming any trails as of yet. We picked up about another foot of fluffy lake effect Saturday night in Evergreen and west but as we know its very light and fluffy and does not pack to any thing for a base. Not sure if Arietta even got out to cut the blow downs thru Sherriff Lake C4 and S88 .
I do know that on the last week end of Hunting (12/07/24) there were some major mud holes on C4 thru Evergreen Park, then we had the big thaw. Very cold this week so they all might just harden up a bit.
I’ll know more this coming week end as we have some desperate riders in Evergreen that will ride on mud as long as they have a little lube once in awhile.
Dont try going past Evergreen west on C4., Its closed in Morehouse by a propery owner that lives out of state and is pissed at the town.

Just saw on face book about the problem with C4 being closed off. It seems some retired town official was paying him under the table using town funds to ride thru his property and that payolla dryed up when who ever retired. I heard the town board is going to discuss the problem tonight at a town meeting. Billy F. will figure it out. This is typical of these Jerseyits that close there land off and bring up their friends to ride on every body else’s property. I cant’n tolerate this crap and usually get into a heated argument over the issue. I remind them that I own land on a corridor trail and do not want to see any of these friends on my property.
Keep us posted on whats happening.

For now we heard from a property owner ( who is a snowmobiler ) that is going to allow a new trail to use is land, but it wont be done this year. For this year he said that we can use a drive way from the main C4 trail down by the flow ground up to Rte. 8 then along the side to the main trail only about a few hundred feet. The Morehouse boys will mark it out soon unless another problem occurs.
There are riders going around the barrier down near Evergreen ( registration booth ) that should wait till the they take it down to make it official.
Thank you to the Morehouse grooming gang.

I am not saying that all of the lake is safe yet. I saw and heard the it was still open as of Saturday January 4 out from Higgins Bay where it 129 feet deep and freezes last. My friends went right over this area and are still alive today so just maybe the lake made more ice last week cause it was down near zero a couple of days . Its should be making ice this week cause its going to be below freezing almost ever day. Also heard and saw riders on Lake Pleasant, Oxbow and Sacandaga Lake so they must be OK
I’ll know more after this coming week end when I talk to more fishermen or I see a pick up out there then my wife will ride it.
PS My good friend spent a hour in Long Lake a couple of years ago until the Long Lake Fire Co rescued him with their air boat. Piseco Fire Co does not have a air boat but hey are prepared with dry suits. I know I could not survived this so I’ll wait, Also on the news a side by side went into the Sacandaga Reservoir. One died and one was rescued y ice fishermen.

January 20, 2025 at 10:08 am #25728Ron RybickiParticipantWe did not ride it this past week end but talked to a lot of riders who did. They said no problems, stay in the main track and do not run over the tip ups that you will see down by the Island. It was hard to get off at the west end as the bank was a vertical jump ( about 4 ft. ) so some riders cut the brush out a few feet to the right and were getting off OK
Wife and I are going to run it this coming Friday, Have’nt told her this yet but with the below zero temps for this week should see that pick up truck out there. I heard they were cutting a foot by the Island last week.
