Here’s the new break down taken from the NYS Snowmobilier Magazine by NYSSA’s trail coordinator ( Bob Korosec )
$422 per mile for Corridor A and; Secondary A trails ( wide abandon roads and main corridor and main secondary trails-C8,C8, S88 )
$347 per mile for Corridor B and Secondary B trails ( ie: C8A or S88A (ends with “A” )
$451 per mile for high snow corridor trails as defined above ( all trails in the forest preserve ( state lands ) and most trails north of RT 29 )
$376 per mile for high snow secondary trails as defined above
These numbers are as a result of our sleds going to $65 each. I know fuel and the grooming machines are very expensive today BUT I believe most clubs seem to be breaking even at least the clubs here in Saratoga County. I believe due to the warming climate and shorter seasons. I also found out that each county allocates by law special snowmobile funding for the miles of trails and number of clubs in each county. Saratoga got $22,000 for 2026 and the last time I looked at Herkimer’s was almost $200,000. This money is supposed to be there for the clubs to apply for as they need it for bridge building material and equipment repair for replacement as a example. In addition, the clubs can apply for grants from Park and Rec for special funding which I know they can get.
Lot of money out there for such a short season when certain clubs close early.
