Indian Lake to Newcomb AGAIN!

Inn on Piseco Lake

When something is right, I’ll hit it again and again until it doesn’t work anymore.

This morning started at -10*F with snow dust in the air. My motivation to ride wasn’t ZERO, but I sure wasn’t in a hurry to get out there.

By noon, temperature had cracked +10*F and sun was poking through cloud. Motivation needle moved past threshold to take action!

Wasn’t going to sit home ALL day when I had no pressing obligations and good riding was easily within my grasp.

Heading out

Started this ride from C8/Sabael trial. Had divots in places, but most of it was a comfortable ride.

C8A/Old S84 toward Blue Mountain Lake had its share of divots. But still a pretty good ride before its next groom. Lots-o-snow!

Indian Lake Snowarriors had banged out a fresh groom on O’Neil Flow Road/Newcomb trail to County line gate.

SWEET!

C8A from County Line to Newcomb T intersection had several short stretches of lumps-n-bumps. But vast majority was good and fun riding.

C8A from Newcomb-T intersection into Newcomb proper was spot-on, Grade A riding!

With snow dust in the air at times, I wasn’t counting on a good view from High Peaks Overlook. So I turned tail back to Indian Lake.

Back home

Had a decent rip on S87 / 42nd and Broadway and a powdery blast across Adirondack Lake.

Was sure to thrash S86a thrice between Sawmill Road and Lone Birch. What a RUSH!!!

Early dinner at Indian Lake Restaurant was the Abanakee Burger (with caramelized onions, Gorgonzola cheese and maple aioli) and a side of fries.

This was an incredibly messy, fun and delicious eat! It’s a several napkin job. The bonus part was dipping fries into the aioli and Gorgonzola left behind in the basket from eating the burger. AWESOME!

I love their Gorgonzola burger, but the Abanakee might be my new favorite Indian Lake Restaurant burger.

On my way out the door, I paid a visit to S85/Ski Hut trail. Every bit as great as it looked!

And it looked like main C8/S86 drag into Indian Lake had enjoyed a fresh afternoon groom. Got back to my warm house prior to dark and before the frigid wind set in.

Bottom line

First 4 miles finished the 200 miler I started yesterday. Then I tacked on another 71 miles.

It was the ride I was in the mood for today! I ain’t gonna be at it Friday when the afternoon temperature barely rises above zero with a frigid wind.

Weekend Outlook

Frigid cold nights should let the trails hold up better than they would most weekends. Dress for survival as temperatures will drop below zero shortly after sunset. Sunday afternoon should offer a bit of reprieve from the bitter cold.

For the ilsnow nation,
