ParticipantTalked to friends who rode this past week end here and here is what they say.
From Evergreen Park thru Sheriff Lake (S88) good for what snow is left after the rain, Powley Rd a 10, (C8) Trail at the end of the Powley Rd (C8A)–mud hole after mud hole but passable. Once into Salisbury Club territory (C4)–trails much improve into the club (mostly old roads and rail road beds) Left the club and headed to Ohio (C4) thru Norway– trails pretty good . From Ohio back towards Evergreen (C4 again) thru Morehouse–Mud holes and wash outs were rough .
They stopped to talk to the new trail boss for Morehouse– Bob Ford. He said the town was going to get out this week to see what they could do to fix the trails cause the temps are going down so snow shoveled in will hopefully stay and we are expected to get more of the white stuff also. Great News.
I will add that I heard from another friend that the trails around Peasant Lake (C8) are being worked on by members of the Stratford Club Great News
Also saw a drag at the old Arietta Hotel on Rt 10 this past Sunday hooked to a Scandic with snow stuck in it. Kelly W. now grooms from here north to old Avery’s Place (C8) and also towards 3rd Lake C8) and on to Caroga and Pleasant Lake.
Thats about all I got

ParticipantAll trails are dragged and most holes are filled in . One bad one before Mt. Home Rd . Ok. to Mosquito hill. Thanks General & Mikey. SxS is still in the barn with no key and the drag buried under snow. Hopefully can get to use it this weekend

ParticipantBoy I dont think know who Deb & Rodney are. They could be Rod from lower Arietta across from the hotel. Her’s been grooming thru Sherriff Lake for the past couple of years and doing a great job. So Fri. Sat, Sun., Mon are the days to ride thru Morehouse. Thats OK. I guess the town wants to save or pocket some money.
I always said you guys in Morehouse were wearing out the snow any way.

ParticipantYes Rod said he used to groom for Arietta Hotel and I believe Deb said her Mom or Gmom owned it. What time are you headed over to Oxbow Sat.? Working Sat. so we’ll swing by camp on the way over in the afternoon.

ParticipantFinally we got to ride after those terrible below zero Saturdays, which My wife can not take due to her breathing. I talked to friends who tried to ride at 13 below for only a short distance and said never again. The minus 20 and 19 for 2 weeks in a row were definitely out of the question for us. Not at our age any more. I used to ride at minus 20 years ago when I was young and stupid and froze my thumb before thumb and grip heaters riding my 70 Skidoo down Piseco. Anyway the trails around here were TERRIFIC as Darin said about his past Friday’s ride. I talked to a lot of people who said the trails all the way down thru lower Arietta to the Openheim Club were also great. Of course they got r chewed up by Saturday night but still not to bad.
The fire works and the Christmas tree burning at the Oxbow Saturday night were great–My hats off to the Pleasant Riders and Ron C and Spike for burning those great dogs of death and burgers on the deck of the Bow all day long for anyone who wanted to choke them down. We did and they were great. You had to park out on the lake there were so many sled there. The bar was 5 deep all evening. Thank you to the bar tenders and Christy ( The Owner ) for allowing this great event every year. I hope the folks who were taking videos with their phones put them out on face book for all to see.
I hope, now that the riding is here that the little rain mixed with snow this coming Wednesday, Friday and Saturday does not put a damper on it . We plan to try the Jerseyfield Lake trail from Ohio to Salisbury (C4) this Saturday, but not in wet snow or worse. We been there and done that to many times in the past.
And a big thanks to all the volunteer groomers around this area for doing your magic on our trails. I always buy them a drink when I meet them out.
Off for now

ParticipantWell folks–Its happen again. Some rotten what a be snowmobilier idiot with loud pipes gave a land owner on trail C4 near Snyder Rd to Hall Rd south of Junction 29 a ration of crap after the land owner told him to slow down. The land owner called the Ohio Club and told them to close the trail permanently. Does not want snowmobiles going by his house any more.
This was one of the main trails connecting the Ohio Tavern and points south to Poland and the only gas any where. Now you have to take C4B at junction 29 and head towards Hinkley then ride bare, sanded roads to main trail C4 then head south to get to Poland. If Hinkley Lake is safe you can cross it and right on RT 365 is gas. Other wise the only gas is at a Stewarts Shop in Poland for miles. So be prepared with your gas needs here as this will add probably 10 more mile to your trip. This will also put a damper on the Alamo Tavern as well as the Ohio Tavern snowmobile traffic till the club can find a re route and I dont think its going to happen this season.

ParticipantFinally got a great ride from Piseco thru Sherriff Lake (S88) then the Powley Rd (C8A) thru Stratford (C4A) towards the Salisbury Club. About 1/2 way to the club we turned south on the abandoned rail bed (C4A or C4) not sure towards Dolgeville and the Dolgeville Rod & Gun Club where we met about 60 sleds from the East Herkimer Snowmobile Club for there annual pilgrimage from their new head quarters base (formally the Ice House Bar & Grill) on (C4A near Middleville) Junction 12. All snowmobiliers are welcome in both these places. We then headed north to the Salisbury Club for a late lunch on (C4 or C4A) not sure. Talked to several riders that came to the club from the Ohio Tavern thru Norway. They said the trails were not that bad but had to ride a sanded and bare road on (C4B, Grant Road) for about a 1/2 mile till the got to (C4) towards Poland. We can thank the idiot who pissed off a land owner and got the main (C4B closed at junction 29 south of the Tavern. (see my comment above) After we ate and said hello to many of our friends ( I been a member here since 1984) there we pointed the sleds back north to Piseco The trails were mint all the way south from Piseco and only got chewed up a little bit coming home (usual for a Saturday night ) especially (C8A) from Stratford north to the Powley RD. This goat path is on state land for most of it so the Stratford Club can only use a Scandic to groom it. And its a main track from the Piseco area to all points south west so you can count on it being chewed up a little and sometimes a lot by Saturday night. I count sleds going by on this trail and some days count over 100 going both ways then this 100 sleds have to come back.
Unlike Darin who usually clicks off around a 100 plus we only got 80 for the day. Great ride though and I hope the predicted rain for this coming Thursday to Sunday is wrong ,but with the frozen snow pack that we have, it should absorb it and not hurt it to much. Hopefully
