March Madness! St. Lawrence Style

Inn on Piseco Lake

We’re on the back end of snowmobiling season.

Been riding ALL WEEK to get it while we still GOT IT!

Wednesday’s ride started at Horseshoe Lake after bucking my way through Route 421 in the truck.

Bluebird sky and afternoon temperature in the 40s were ideal to enjoy early spring riding on deep snowpack built over this winter.

Couldn’t wait to hit the trails.

Heading to South Colton

First mile from Horseshoe Lake was MINT! Remainder of C7A to STLA 2 intersection alternated between nearly smooth and bumpy for stretches.

Caught a fresh groom on C7C and rolled it though Boy Scout camp to Thirsty Moose.

C7C from Thirsty Moose to STLA 9 intersection had residual bumps through the new groom.

STLA 9 intersection to Seveys Point on C7C hadn’t been groomed yet. VERY ROUGH!

Thankfully, crossing NY-3 got us to much better riding through C7C, C7A and S88 to STLA 29 intersection.

C8/snowmobiling highway to Troopers Shed had stretches of studder-ripple, but was a fast rip. Pretty good riding on C8 from Troopers Shed to STLA 56 intersection.

C8 from STLA 56 intersection to STLA 78 intersection on Stark Road was GORGEOUS!

C8D between STLA 78 to STLA 67 intersections was SPLENDID!

Vast majority of C8E was a great ride into South Colton. But bottom of the hill was getting baked.

To Star Lake

C8D from STLA 67 to Troopers Shed alternated from nearly smooth to studder bumps and rollers at times. Plowed road section near Rainbow Club had enough wet ice to slide by. But sun was baking it to mud in spots.

Sidebar through S84a to Clare Town Barn was AWESOME!

By mid-afternoon C8/snowmobiling superhighway from Troopers Shed, southward had gotten some mashed potato lumps.

Peeled onto a great ride through Local 712/Out-a-fit trail.

From STLA 25a intersection, C8 was good to excellent riding to Cook Corners. From there, C8 to STLA 222 intersection was a fun mashed potato ride.

Aside from a few dirty corners, S80G was GREAT!

From STLA 202 intersection, S80 started with studder ripple then morphed into an ultra-fun mashed potato ride through Newton Falls into Star Lake.

Lunch

After a refuel stop at Circle-K, we hit up Twin Lakes Hotel. By then, it was mid-afternoon and certainly time to eat. Opted for the pressed Cuban sandwich special, VERY GOOD EATS!

Back to the truck

Doubled back to STLA 222 intersection and had a nice ride on C8 to Wanakena.

From there, a sun-splashed rip on Cranberry Lake. That was FUN!

Ripped through S89 from Cranberry Lake. Scooted to S88a and S88, most was good except for a stretch of bumps approaching STLA 27 intersection.

From there, C7A through Shurtleff had studder bumps and rollers at times.

Local 718, 717 and S88 Childwold loop always delivers the goods! Especially good to pad happy fun miles near the end of a ride.

From STLA2 intersection, C7A was lumpy and bumpy at times to Horseshoe Lake, aged me in dog years. Mile long WHOOOSH to the truck ended the ride on a high note.

Finished the ride just after 6pm with 196 miles. MARCH MADNESS!

Drive for 5000

MISSON ACCOMPLISHED! And I got another quarter in my pocket this week for riding.
