Monday, Monday: Indian Lake to Newcomb

Inn on Piseco Lake

Last weekend was brutally COLD! If I only had weekends, I would have been riding. Trails hold up much better when it’s that cold.

I live here, so I chose to let the brunt pass before venturing back out. Monday had another sub-zero start, but bright sunshine would push the thermometer to near 20*F in the afternoon.

HEAT WAVE!

Started Monday’s ride from end of Pelon Road around 10:30am. No big ambitions for this ride. Just wanted to stroll around and enjoy the day.

To Newcomb

S87 / 42nd and Broadway started the ride well.

Aside from small divots in places, C8A/Old S84 toward Blue Mountain Lake was nice riding! Encountered Town of Indian Lake groomer on its return run, leaving its ribbon.

Looking especially dapper through Rock Lake marsh.

C8A Newcomb Trail/O’Neil Flow Road was ACES! Best ride from end-to-end on that trail I’ve had all winter.

At Newcomb-T intersection, I caught an untracked fresh groom on C8A and followed that to Newcomb proper. INCREDIBLE!

Sunny, cold days are the best to hit up High Peaks Overlook in Newcomb. After a rip across Lake Harris, trail from Campsite to Overlook was studder-ripply, awaiting its next groom.

View was STUNNING from the Overlook!

After a short stay to admire, I backtracked through Newcomb Trail/O’Neil Flow Road to ride it all over again!

To Blue Mountain Lake

S84 to Lake Durant was a nice ride. Old Stage trail into Blue Mountain Lake was SWEET!

Got to a stunning snow-capped view of Blue Mountain and large snowbank off Route 28 where wind blows snow off the lake.

Backtracked to Chef Darrell’s Mountain Diner for lunch. I’ve been intrigued about the chicken and waffle breakfast, so I gave it a shot!

Light drizzle of honey on the crispy chicken made it work with the waffle. And I got a couple of sunny side up eggs on the side. It was a hearty meal!

Back to Indian Lake (and a bit more!)

C8/S86 main drag had some shredder bumps, but was comfortable traveling.

C8/Sabael trail had enjoyed a Monday groom and was MINT.

Had a great cruise on Indian Lake. Almost nothing beats a fair weather day on the big pond! With the exception of wavy bumps on the south bay, majority looked like this:

C8 / Two Miles of Hell was tattered from the weekend. Truth be told, it wasn’t absolutely horrible for the scratch-n-sniff test. But I didn’t want it to be part of THIS RIDE.

Chatted with Glenn V of Indian Lake Snowarriors while he took a break from grooming Campsites trail between Indian Lake and Lewey Lake.

Played around on Indian Lake for a while on the way back to town. Went down to Johnny Mack Bay, also weaved around the islands.

After refueling 900 ACE Turbo for the next ride, I completed the Victory Loop via S86a and Adirondack Lake.

Got back to the truck late in the afternoon with 118 easy going miles.

WHAT A DAY FOR RIDING!

Bottom line

I’m sounding like a broken record. Call in SICK OR DEAD this week and RIDE!

Snowmobile trails will continue to recover from the weekend as groomers make their rounds.

For the ilsnow nation,

Darrin
