I get apprehensive on my first ride of the season.
Are my snowmobile and gear going to work as they are supposed to?
It’s really cold out there! Am I going to stay warm?
It was time for that first ride. I’ve been waiting for this all through #summersucks.
HERE WE GO!
Browns Farm into Moose River Plains
Met up with Darrin Jr after work Thursday and trucked it to Browns Farm at 1517 Cedar River Road, Indian Lake, NY. Started riding after sunset.
Sleds ran great and light snow was in the air. Nice evening for a ride!

Moose River Plains hadn’t been groomed from the Indian Lake side or from Inlet, but it was a pretty good ride through much of the Plains. The only rough bumps were on the steep hill climb on Cellar Mountain. Not much carbide clank.
By the time I reached Cedar River Headquarters, I was feeling it.
Was AWESOME back on the saddle!

Inlet to Eagle Bay
Ole Barn to Gilbert Road had soft bumps, but was easily tolerable. Trail along Route 28 to Eagle Bay was rather bumpy in places, but we muscled through it.
Trail 5 Eagle Bay to Daikers had bumps, but we’ve all seen it much worse.
Stopped at Daikers for dinner and was sure to sit near the warm fire! Had no trouble crushing the food that was put before me.

After dinner, we doubled back to Browns Farm and got back to the truck by 9pm. Rolled off 71 miles.
Much closer to an evening stroll than a high miler. But this ride was MISSON ACCOMPLISHED!
Great times and I’m just getting started this winter. Exactly where I want to be on December 11th!
Darrin Jr loves his new 900 ACE Turbo. It’s an awesome snowmobile to rack up miles and smiles. Riding with my kid is one of the best things in my life. There’s nothing else like it!

Bottom line
Definitely a worthy first ride! If groomers roll through Moose River Plains on Friday, you’ll find it in better shape than we did – before the weekend hordes chew it up.
People are riding the narrow woodsy trails, even C8 from Indian Lake to Headquarters. They are ROUGH! We need more snow to establish a groom-able base on these trails around Indian Lake.
LAKES? No comment! Don’t bother asking me.
For the ilsnow nation,
Darrin
