Indian Lake to Deerfield and beyond mega miler!

I wasn’t planning a high miler on Friday. Thought about doing a local-ish ride and be done by early or mid afternoon.

But riding was great and snowmobile traffic surprisingly light, so I just kept going!

Rolling through Bear Trap Swamp in the morning showed promise. Bright sun lifted my spirits!

Leaving Indian Lake

C8/Sabael trail was a nice ride out of ilsnow Capital City. Used the folding hand saw to deal with a couple of fallen trees from Thursday night’s windstorm.

Thursday’s 4-5 inch snow/sleet mix congealed to form a soft cap over the slush on Indian Lake.

Campsites trail was bumpy, but manageable. Lewey Lake was a good crossing.

2 Miles from Hell hadn’t been groomed after the new snow. But it was entirely white and best I’ve seen it this winter.

Perkins Clearing, onward!

Fresh groom through Perkins Clearing Road and Jessup River Road to the back side of Perkins Clearing.

Just followed the awesome ribbon!

Picked up a fresh groom midway on C4/C8 Big Brook trail!

Took a chance on C4/C8 Willis Mountain trail and was treated to a good ride to Piseco.

Piseco Lake was a tame crossing.

At this point, I decided to take this ride the distance!

Morehouse

Evergreen Lake had THICK snow cover. I made first track today.

Also was the first track on C4A entering Morehouse.

YEAH, BUDDY!!!

Caught a fresh groom on C4/Morehouse. Eventually overtook the groomer tag team. All fun and games until I encountered another fallen tree. A group riding behind me caught up. Took turns with my folding handsaw until we cleared the mess on Aisle 4. Many hands make lighter work!

Ohio

C4/Jones Road was a good rip. C4B was a nice ride into Ohio and the good times kept coming on C4G.

C4 had studder ripple in the woods, but good riding on the seasonal road and open fields. S44 was a good ride to Poland Stewarts.

S44 through Poland Village wasn’t too bad in the morning.

Deerfield

C7C entering Deerfield was actually pretty good and had a blanket of new snow. By the time I got to the open fields, I was in a light sandstorm.

C7C and C7A were like riding a cloud! Miles and miles of smiles stacked on each other.

And I love these signs posted at intersections. Perfect for visiting snowmobilers!

Trenton area

Followed the C7A cloud riding across Route 12, then hung a left onto S74.

Trails were board flat with at least a half-foot of new snow!

Found my way to the Sunoco in Stittville for a fuel stop, with nearly 100 miles ridden already!

Then I hooked up with S76 for more cloud riding.

C7 was bumpy and rough at times descending into Stueben Valley.

Fun times resumed when I rejoined C7A!

From there, I rolled C7R into Mapledale, thence across Route 12 to get back into Deerfield, all fun riding!

The way back

Figured I’d just return to ilsnow land the way I came because it would be good to great riding! No need to take unnecessary chances when everything was rolling my way!

Saw the barely touched Deerfield trail 562 and decided to roll that on my way to doubling my pleasure of riding C7A/C7C around Deerfield.

S44 through Poland Village was brown and bumpy on the return trip into Ohio. But everything else was holding up since the morning.

Late lunch (or early dinner) at Ohio Tavern

Possibly the best mozzarella sticks and sauce I’ve eaten, ever!

Tavern burger and pierogies were AWESOME. Could be the best burger I’ve had!

If you like your burger topped with caramelized onions and crumbly bleu cheese, order this!

Didn’t order dessert because I still had at least 3 hours of saddle time before I’d get home!

The press home!

Back the way I came. C4 through Morehouse held up very well.

C8 between Piseco to Oxbow Lake, C4/Fall Lake trail and C4/8 Willis Mountain & Big Brook trail were all good riding. A few spots were bouncy, but not enough to ruin the fun. Stopped at Oxbow Inn and chatted with friends for a few minutes.

Perkins Clearing got bumped up a bit with Friday’s traffic. But Perkins Clearing Road held up better than Jessup River Road.

Mashed through 2 Miles from Hell, which hadn’t been groomed. Campsites trail was approaching sno-cross moguls. Indian Lake was an uneventful crossing, which is what you want at night, especially!

C8/Sabael trail was a welcome mat back into ilsnow Capital City.

S86/main artery into downtown Indian Lake had soft bumps, but holding up pretty well.

S85/Ski Hut trail was perfect! Felt compelled to rip that back-n-forth twice before calling it a ride.

Rolled back to the compound with 234 miles by 8pm. Few things feel more rewarding than banging out a mega miler, then parking the sled in the garage when I’m done. No long truck ride home.

Yeah!!!!!
