Snow cover around Indian Lake ranges from barely a few inches in thin spots up to 5-10 inches, then improving to a foot or more pressing into Moose River Plains.
Locals are slithering around town on their beaters. But there were no tracks yet on C8/Sabael trail south of Pashley Road. I wouldn’t want to be the first to hit that quagmire.
A spy told me that Town of Indian Lake was grooming C8 from Cedar River Headquarters back to Indian Lake on Monday. These pics don’t look bad. But expect sections of bony and rough riding until trail base builds deep enough to cover rocks, roots and terrain divots in the woods.
I didn’t see a groom heading out C8A/Old S84 toward Blue Mountain Lake on a drive-by Monday afternoon.

Moose River Plains
The spy also reported the first miles of Moose River Plains were really bumpy, then flattened out nicely into the Inlet side.
Midweek Outlook
If you want to stay away from deep snow and the crowds that come with it, we have what you’re looking for all week!
No meaningful snow is expected, but we’ll stay cold. Narrow wooded trails will be ride-able but rough in places with limited grooming on thin snow cover.
Your best play would be to hit up Browns Farm parking lot near the end of Cedar River Road, plunk down the $10/per snowmobile on trailer and roll into Moose River Plains and take the points. Hopefully, groomers will stamp out the weekend bumps on Indian Lake side as the week progresses.
Weekend storm?
Ensemble modelology is showing a short wave (S/W) weather system rotating around the base of the Polar Vortex (PV) on Saturday. But the mighty Newfoundland Vortex (NV) appears likely to shove the brunt of that storm well to our south. But we’ll get to scan data this week for any changes.
Wish I had better to tell you. But at least we’re not looking at grass!
For the ilsnow nation,
Darrin
