Garbage time in ilsnow land! Last roll into Sparkle City

Wilder Performance

It may be garbage time, but all points count in the final stats. Larry Bird would gun for the building scoring record in the final minutes of a Celtics blowout on the road, simply for his amusement.

My time is nearly over. So, I might as well run up the score!

There wasn’t any fresh snow for Wednesday morning, so I waited for the sun to soften up the trails and headed out around noon.

Heading out of Indian Lake

C8/Sabael trail was skunky at the road crossing, but holding up pretty well in the woods.

Indian Lake and Lewey Lake were effortless and smooth crossings.

Campground? Well, only a fleet of dozers could level those bumps now.

C8/2 Miles from Hell was studderchoppy, but holding together for the most part. As least the sun had softened the bumps.

Rolled into Perkins Clearing via S82C/Old Indian Lake Road. Won’t say too much about that because I covered that in Tuesday’s ride report. I will say the thin spots got a bit thinner and the several bald spots got a bit bigger.

Into Sparkle City (Speculator)

C4/C8 Big Brook trail had soft studderbumps and low rollers throughout. The southerly exposed hillside was getting spanked, but the trail was mostly holding up well otherwise.

C4/Fawn Lake trail was miles of smiles. Near-perfect spring snowmobile riding. You could not ask for better on March 29th!

While I had stopped to sunbathe at this spot beside Fawn Lake, several snowmobilers stopped by and said HI. None of them were disappointed with the trail conditions. They were happy to be riding one more time before calling it a winter.

Sacandaga Lake and Lake Pleasant were more terrific lake riding.

In between, LP1/Page Street trail was nice and flat in the woods. But getting grubby along the road.

Yup, it was getting bare at the beach when I rolled into Speculator Village off Lake Pleasant.

Well, this was the BEST of Business Access Trail (B.A.T). At least the puddles kept slides and heat exchangers content.

LP4 to Mountain Market? Well, not much left of that trail. But I slithered along to score the Philly for the win!

Back to Indian Lake

Just retraced my steps through C4/Fawn Lake, Perkins Clearing and S82C/Old Indian Lake Road.

On the return trip, C8/2 Miles from Hell was a near-continuous rumble strip. At least the bumps were softened a bit.

Lakes were ridiculously fun rip. I tooled around Indian Lake for a while. Summer on the lake can’t hold a candle to snowmobiling on the lake. No comparison can be made, whatsoever.

By the time I rolled back to the compound around 6pm, Indian Lake trails were holding up decent in the woods but skunky near road crossings and the other vulnerable spots in the open.

Miles don’t matter much at this point. But I’ll report it: 95.

One more thing

For now, Town of Lake Pleasantโ€™s groomers have been parked at the gates into Perkins Clearing to allow snowmobiling traffic and block out automobile traffic. Sooner, rather than later, those gates will be swung shut and locked to keep cars out โ€“ although you will be able to ride around the gate into Perkins Clearing a while longer as long as snow cover permits.

Bottom line

Honestly, I thought Sunday’s ride would be my final time into Speculator Village for the season. But I guess I wanted to see if I could do it one more time. OK… This was the last time!

Going to head out again on Thursday. Gotta tack a few more points on the board before calling it quits.

For the ilsnow nation,

Darrin
