Indian Lake Day

Wilder Performance

Tuesday started at -13*F, so I decided to wait until late morning to head out.

It was one of those sunny winter days that make you want to be outdoors, once the temperature got above zero.

Wasn’t in the mood for a big miler. Just wanted to have fun locally. I figured that horsing around on Indian Lake would be the best way.

Around town

Indian Lake local trails had enjoyed a morning groom. It was smooth sailing all the way through C8/Sabael trail aside from the thin spots.

Got down to Indian Lake and played all afternoon in the sun. Ripping up and down the lake, weaving around the islands, and going back into the coves and bays. Along the way, I also hit some of my “secret stashes.” No, I don’t tell ALL! Gotta keep some to myself.

The photo gallery can’t totally capture the glorious outdoors on Indian Lake. But I have to try, right?

After a while, I thought a run to Perkins Clearing would extend the ride. Campsites trail was in good shape and Lewey Lake was a beautiful rip.

Then I encountered the Two Miles from Hell, which was bumpy, rough and snirty. Could I have muscled it out to catch the prize in Perkins Clearing? Yes… But you know what? I didn’t want 2 Miles from Hell to spoil Tuesday’s glory on the lake.

Two Miles from Hell

So, it was back on Indian Lake to have more fun in the sun. After I got my fill of that, I headed back to town. C8/Sabael trail was still a good ride by late-afternoon. Main arteries around town were tattered a bit, ranging from nearly smooth to soft shredder bumps.

I met up with Noah Pine who had come back from Moose River Plains. He told me that C8 out to Headquarters was surprising good, considering the amount of snow we have.

I thought about making a run up S84/Blue Mountain trail as far as Rock Lake Marsh, just for a look-see. But in the end, I didn’t want to bother dodging rocks through that avenue. I’ll save that for the next dump of snow.

Performed the customary victory lap and was treated to an awesome Cedar River shot along S87/42nd and Broadway.

42nd and Broadway

Rolled back the compound with 71 sun-drenched fun miles for the day. It was the right ride at the right time – the BEST way to enjoy the lake.

One more thing…

If you’re looking for a place to stay and ride in Indian Lake, consider The Lorca. It’s the former Squaw Brook Motel in Sabael and the rooms have been winterized. There is good room to park your trailer. You can access Indian Lake on snowmobile by following the signs to Indian Lake Marina. You can click here to check their website for more info and to book a room.

Outlook

Groomers are doing the best they can with what we’ve got, essentially working with the same snow over the past couple of weeks. Our upcoming storm for Thursday into Friday is looking good to give us badly-needed snow to bring us up to mid-winter par. Click here to keep up on my forecasts.

Just get here! It’s already February and we had a late start. You can’t do this in #summersucks.
