Wilder Performance

The magic is gone! But you’ll be able to “diehard it” this weekend if you want it badly enough.

Leftover snow pack has been whittled down to several inches or less over exposed areas with bare areas expanding daily. There is still upwards of 6-18 inches remaining in the woods:

Some snow bowls in the southwestern flank of ilsnow land still hold 18 inches or more, but those areas are shrinking daily.

Your best bet would be to start from somewhere with direct or near-direct access to Perkins Clearing, Speculator Tree Farm, or Powley Road. Even the Morehouse trails could still hold good enough riding, except for the three-quarter of a mile stretch on C4, just west of HAMI 14 intersection where it was logged earlier this winter. Trails into downtown Indian Lake and Speculator village are either skunky, skanky or completely shot.

With nothing but mild temperatures in sight for the following week, this will be my last commentary on trail conditions for the season. It was yet another short snowmobiling season for the central Adirondacks. At least we managed to avoid jailbreak thaws and heavy rain during the heart of winter to fully capitalize on our limited snowfall.

As always, it’s been a true pleasure to help fellow snowmobilers maximize their riding time by keeping you informed on trail conditions. Every year that goes by is another year closer to when I’ll have to hang it up and walk away. But I don’t see the finish line yet, so I’ll keep at it!

Onward and upward for next winter,

Darrin

This report is brought to you by Progressive Motorsports, celebrating their 28th year. They live, eat and breathe snowmobiling. Stop in today and see for yourself! Be sure to tell Karen that Darrin @ ilsnow.com sent ya.
