Holiday Weekend Outlook

Wilder Performance

2/16/21 Update: Not what we were looking for, but far from being a total disaster. Monday brought an inch of snow and Monday night delivered a 3 inches snow-sleet mixture with a cap of glaze on top. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the warm nose aloft jailbreak here so far ahead of schedule.

2/10/21 Report

Hard to believe, but Presidents’ Weekend is straight up around the corner! The season is blowing by, largely because we got skunked from December into the first half of January before we got off the mat.

But here we are, with snow pack generally ranging from 16-24 inches. The snow bowls are holding greater than 2 feet:

The weather forecast looks great for maintaining our snow pack with opportunity to add to it. We can’t ask for much better than that.

Unfortunately, no snowmobile riding for me this week. But I can tell you that mid-week traffic remains higher than usual – due to International Border closure preventing travel into Canada and interstate COVID-19 travel restrictions.

We’ve got the snow, but I can tell you the main arteries into Indian Lake, namely C8 and S84 get chewed up quickly, even after a fresh groom. It’s been amazing to see how brown and thin these trails have been, even with what is typical mid-winter snow pack.

In a nutshell, your riding experience will depend on what you hit and when you hit it. The groomers will be out, but so will the holiday weekend hoards. You’re going to find great….and awful. My best strategy advise, as always, is to hit it early and often to maximize the good riding. Of course, if you can swing mid-week riding….go for it!
