Indian Lake, NY ended up with around 3-and-a-half inches of white stuff Friday night into Saturday morning which mixed with a good amount of sleet and freezing rain to add body to the snow.
Here was the modeled snowpack shortly after the snow ended Saturday morning:
The best places to ride with this meager snow pack would be Moose River Plains, Perkins Clearing and Powley Road. But I don’t have any first hand knowledge of actual riding conditions at this time. If you set your expectations reasonably low for limited, marginal riding – you may do OK.
Local town trails and narrow woods trails need much more snow to make them “good riding”. Beware of usual early winter hazards such as rocks, water/mud holes and fallen trees/branches. Riding will be tedious as best through those avenues until further notice.
For the love of all things good: STAY OFF THE LAKES! Especially the larger lakes that take longer to freeze up. I really don’t want to read about you falling through the ice in the Hamilton County Snooze.
January 3-8, 2020 Outlook
We should pick up a bit more snow later Sunday into early Monday. But nothing yet points to significant snow fall for the upcoming week.
Temperatures will remain marginally cold enough during the day to maintain our snow cover. But we will lack the bitter cold nights desperately needed to tighten things up.
Your riding options are limited, but at least we have options in ilsnow land now.
