After I completed my snow removal chores, I went out there to poke around in the half-foot of fresh snow we got in Indian Lake. It was starter snow, for sure, with no other snow under it. But I sorely needed to get out there and it was absolutely the right thing for me to do.
Most of the local town trails were already tracked by mid-afternoon. But I did get to be the first tracks on S84:
It might have looked pretty nice in that picture, but I had to nurse it over and around the rocks. In a pleasant surprise, the water holes were frozen over solid.
I didn’t run over to 42nd and Broadway because Benton Road was very scratchy after being plowed and I knew I wasn’t going to rip Adirondack Lake, so I just took the short spin to the end of Benton Road and saw that the gate to S84/Blue Mountain Lake hadn’t been unlocked yet:
So back into town I rolled and was happy to see that others had hacked their way through the Bear Trap swamp cat-tails before I slithered through:
Made it over to S86/Little Canada and nursed it through there too. Ole Betsy sat there, enjoying the view as she watched me perform some community service fallen tree cutting on the trail:
Made it back to Route 30 One Stop and was perhaps the first one ever to roll up to their new gas pumps on a snowmobile. Took advantage and topped the tank up with new gas to run through her veins:
Then I horsed around a bit in town before I called it a ride. Got back to the compound with my first 9 miles of the season. Well….OK….OK!! I did run the sled about a half mile on the jack stand a couple weeks ago.
I was told that Indian Lake Parks and Rec rode C8 out to Cedar River Headquarters. I can’t imagine that was a tremendously enjoyable ride. But it’s good to know that the trail has been ridden with blow down removed.
It felt GREAT to get back on the saddle, something I sorely needed. ILsnow land didn’t get the multiple feet that other places got. But if you know anything about ol’ Darrin, I usually get the snow, eventually… π We still got a whole lotta winter ahead of us to balance the snow books.

For the love of all things good, STAY OFF THE LAKES! Indian Lake finally froze over Wednesday morning and looks like this now:
For the ilsnow nation,
