Crazy Cal and I hooked up for an after-work snowmobile ride up to Newcomb. To be honest, I wasn’t feeling all that optimistic about the prospect for a really good ride, on a Monday, before the groomers have had a chance to make multiple rounds after the weekend carnage.
Heading out of town on S84/Blue Mountain trail was bumpy from the weekend, but really wasn’t all that bad: soft studder-bumps and the occasional moguls.
538/Newcomb Trail was an awesome ride all the way up! It was well worth the lumps we took to get there:
After the Newcomb-T, the magic continued all the way over to the Newcomb House.
We both had the Newcomb House Philly cheese-steak which always hits the spot. It’s been quite a while since I had one.
Another cool thing was having that extra hour of daylight. Two thumbs up for Daylight Saving Time! As an evening person, I love it. 🙂
After dinner, we did have our night ride back to Indian Lake. Victory Lap around town was amazing. And here was a shot of S85/Ski Hut trail with an inch of snow on top of a recent groom. How good is that?!
Rolled back into the compound with a nifty 68.8 miles just after 9:30pm. Seems kind of strange that I hadn’t ridden up to Newcomb in almost a month-in-a-half, but I’ve been making up for lost time on my southern excursions since C8/Sabael trail reopened.
Also really nice the logging is done for the season on the southern end of 538/Newcomb trail. Would be nice to get another big snow to build the base where the trail was plowed most of the winter. We’ll need all the snow we can get on that as the sun continues to get higher in the sky.
I didn’t turn the GPS tracker on. Maybe next ride….
Midweek Outlook
It’s really simple: Just get up here and RIDE! We’ll have winter-ish temperatures into Wednesday morning. Then temperatures will poke above 40*F Wednesday afternoon, which opens the pathway to some real warmth for Thursday and Friday.
Weekend Outlook?
Later this week will hurt for sure. But Thursday should be essentially rain-free and we may not get excessive rain on Friday. This could keep the trails from getting washed out.
Unfortunately, we’ll lose the snow off the roads and likely the lakes too before the weekend.
We’ll just have to see what it looks like on the other side.
