Midweek Outlook: Update 12/10/18

Wilder Performance

There was good and ugly to be had last weekend.

Well, I would say that people who hit Moose River Plains Friday or early Saturday were treated to conditions about as good as you can reasonably expect for so early in the season.

Those who took to the “woods trails” were greeted with plenty of bumps and mud holes. I took a short spin on the Indian Lake village trails Sunday afternoon. I can tell you that was an absolutely brutal trek.

It was astonishing to see people who rode their snowmobiles from Moose River Plains back toward Indian Lake along the 17 mile stretch of Trail C8. That could not have been an enjoyable ride.

But, bless their hearts… They made it into town, spent money here and broke up the trails so the mud holes can start to freeze. It’s all part of the process. 🙂

Vision test

Which looks better:

This?

Moose River Plains

Or this?

Indian Lake Village Trail

The answer seems pretty obvious: Just trailer to Browns Farm near the end of Cedar River Road, pay the old lady $5 per sled and ride into Moose River Plains.

Cold nights this week will begin to freeze up the exposed mud holes. But with no meaningful snow in sight for this week, the riding ain’t gonna get any better around town.

Unfortunately,  Newcomb trail is not a good option because it’s plowed 4 miles in from Route 28/30. The north end of Perkins Clearing Road is no longer being plowed, but it awaits snow to make the riding more enjoyable.

Weekend?

I’ve seen plenty of possible outcomes for this weekend, none of them helping us. However, if we can skate by Saturday with temperatures under 40*F and light or modest rain, the seasonal roads will hold for another weekend of riding. But it might not be fun riding in the rain on Saturday.

If you can sneak up here for a mid-week snowmobile ride in Moose River Plains, you’ll probably have a good time and can leave the weekend dilemma to someone else.
