Wilder Performance

Well…I’ll lay out what we’ve got here:

Snow cover is thin to bare in the exposed areas and ranges upwards of 8-16 inches in the shady woods around Indian Lake.

For the most part, the trails still hold a leftover base, with bald spots on turns and exposed areas.

You can see the snow pack map here, which still shows localized 2+ foot pack in the snow bowls of the south-central Adirondacks, the leftover fruits of a 2-3 foot snow binge they experienced in early February:

Yes, I’m certain that Perkins Clearing is still ride-able. I actually had a hair-brained idea to make a Perkins Clearing run on Thursday. But I scouted ahead on car and found that Furnells Field was bald, the trail from Route 30 down to Indian Lake was mainly pavement on top and rocks on the bottom and the shoreline ice on Indian Lake was softer than I cared for.

In the end, I didn’t bother even going for a short spin around town because I’m holding out for Friday’s outcome.

And yes, the gates to Moose River Plains have been CLOSED by DEC pending a return to something that half-way resembles winter.

Weekend Outlook

That pretty much sits on what happens Thursday night through Friday, which is still an open book. With warm conditions prior to the storm and marginally cold conditions expected during and after the storm, we’re going to need A LOT of snow to make it worth the trip here.

If we get any amount of snow accumulation, I’ll probably be spinning around town anyway.
