After Work Special: Update 1/31/17

Wilder Performance

One of my favorite things in life is being able to roll out of work and hit the trails for an evening spin.

So that’s exactly what I did today!

Over the weekend, I heard reports of awesome and terrible riding…pretty typical stuff for a busy mid-winter weekend. It all depended on when and where you hit the trails.

Around Indian Lake, the groomers have essentially carpet-bombed the weekend bumps into oblivion. The inner village trails and C8/out to Sabael ranged from smooth to slight studder-ripple. Aside from some icy turns and corner scuff, these trails were very good riding.

The lesser traveled trails like S87/42nd and Broadway, S86/Little Canada and S85/Ski Hut trail were magnificent riding.

I took C8 toward Cedar River Headquarters for at least several miles, past the Deer Valley Club parking lot. It wasn’t quite as smooth as the trails in town, but it was good, quality ride. I heard that Moose River Plains was in good to great riding shape today as well.

After I doubled back to town, I snapped a picture at one of my favorite spots near the junction of C8 and S84, looking toward the Cedar River Golf Course:

Nothing beats riding on smooth trails with a light snow coming down as the day fades into night. LOVE IT!!

Then I took S84/out to Blue Mountain. That was a terrific ride all the way through. Turned right onto 538/Newcomb trail and encountered the Snowarriors groomer coming back from its run. Sweet ride all the way to the Essex County Line.

The good times kept on rolling all the way up to the Newcomb-T as that stretch was groomed recently. Even Joseph Mountain was in good shape.

Then I turned back to town and rolled back to the compound with an easy 75 miles for the evening.

If you got a sick day or two to drop, I’d suggest pulling the lever this week. Snow-pack in the central Adirondacks is easily a dense 1-2+ feet, more than good enough for the groomers to work their magic. And…more fresh snow will gradually add to the pile this week.
