Update 12/22/16 AM: Nice start to the day! Picked up 2.5 inches of snow.
This will freshen things nicely to hit places like Moose River Plains, Perkins Clearing, Speculator Tree Farm, Powley Road, etc.
The narrow woods trails are ride-able” but you need to proceed with care.
Sunday’s thaw did not wipe us out, leaving us with a remnant base. Snow pack is 4-8+ inches around Indian Lake, increasing to a foot or more in parts of the western Adirondacks.
The leftover snow has frozen hard as a brick in many places, so any riding this week on heavily packed trails will be “slide & heat exchanger unfriendly” until we get more snow.
I don’t see a whole lot of help coming for us this week, but at least whatever snow we have now will stick around. Whether you’d like to ride in marginal early season conditions is up to you.
Unfortunately, I see a potentially damaging rain/warmth event for the Day after Christmas.
I go into more details and look into the New Year here:
Wish I had better news. But as always, we’ll have to see how everything unfolds. At any rate, I hope you get some riding in by Christmas!
Boreas Ponds
The deadline for submitting your comments in regards to Boreas Ponds classification is December 30, 2016.
If you didn’t attend an APA meeting or send your comments in yet, I’ve got you covered!
It will literally take you as short as 30 seconds to a minute to do this:
Click here to find a pre-written letter that you can send to Governor Cuomo and the APA. Once you reach the page, scroll down a bit to find the letter. You just need to enter your full name, email address, street address, city, state and zipcode then hit “Send it.”
Although snowmobiling isn’t mentioned by name in the letter, Wild Forest is the only classification that allows for snowmobiling on the pre-existing roads in the Borea Ponds region. You can certainly edit the pre-written letter to include snowmobiling.
Do this NOW, before you get on your sled again! It’s an easy way to tell the State that we want snowmobiling on this new piece of State land that already has logging roads on it and that we all paid for.
For the ilsnow nation,
Darrin
This report is brought to you by Progressive Motorsports, celebrating their 24th year. They live, eat and breathe snowmobiling. Stop in today and see for yourself! Be sure to tell Karen that Darrin @ ilsnow.com sent ya! ?
