Indian Lake Ride Report: Update 1/12/15

Wilder Performance

I picked up nearly 3 inches of snow Monday at Indian Lake. Further south did better with 4-6 inches from Speculator/Wells over to Morehouse.

Snow pack is around 8-12 inches at Indian Lake and is probably over a foot heading out into Moose River Plains.

Took a spin around the Indian Lake village trails. They were all rough with the exception of the section of S86A/Little Canada behind the Lone Birch to Sawmill Road. By far, the best riding was on Lake Adirondack. I took S84/Blue Mountain trail about a quarter mile past “Million Dollar Bridge” for the sake of a trail report. That was rough too.

For the most part, the base is very solid. I only clanked a rock top once. The only wet spot I found was at the east end of Bear Trap Swamp. I didn’t hit C8/Sabael trail, but I heard it was in very poor shape with water hazards.

Based on what I saw around town today, I would think C8 out to Cedar River Headquarters would be a long, bump infested ride.

Here are a few pictures I took today:

It wasn’t any great shakes, but it’s good to get back into the swing of things with the first “real ride” of the season.

Midweek Outlook:

There is enough base and fresh snow to groom the trails this week. Until the groomers come out to work their magic around town, your best bet would be to park at the Brown’s Farm parking lot at the end of Cedar River Road and work your way into Moose River Plains from there. I’ll check a time or two or three this week on the local trails to see what kind of shape they are in.

Speculator Tree Farm and Perkins Clearing were reported to be great riding last weekend. D.R.A.G. of Speculator was doing its work on the Speculator village trails. So I suspect some areas of good riding down there.

Remember to check the ilsnow.com bulletin board for honest trail reports by local and visiting riders.

Weekend Outlook:

There is lots of angst about a strong warm-up but I don’t foresee a killer thaw for the holiday weekend. Provided the groomers do their thing this week, we should be set up pretty good going into the weekend. At least as well as we can be with this little snow cover.

For the ilsnow nation,

Darrin
