Saturday night, we got 2-3 inches of snow/sleet mash caked with ice. Then temperatures shot into the 40s on Sunday, but thankfully not much rain with that. The whole thing settled into about an inch or two of slushy mess.
Then everything froze solid last night as temperatures plunged into the teens. For good measure, Indian Lake got about an inch of wind whipped snow. Judging from the webcams, the western Adirondacks may have gotten several inches of snow.
Here’s what it looked like outside the ilsnow storm center this morning:
Cold and unforgiving, and it’s only going to turn colder as the week presses on. Snow pack is around a half-foot at my house. Some places more, the exposed places less.
Midweek Update:
With no big storms in the picture for this week, the trails around Indian Lake and Speculator village are going to be rough and icy. At least this a bit more of a base and the water hazards are going to freeze up nice and tight.
Lake effect snows will freshen up places like Moose River Plains and Perkins Clearing. So, conditions out there will improve out there over the course of the week. I’ll pass along reports to you. Beware of icy conditions under the new snow.
Strong winds may have knocked down branches and trees. Beware of blowdown.
If you happen to come up here to scratch the itch, dress for survival because it’s going to get mighty cold around here…especially by Wednesday into Thursday!
Bottom line: We need a big storm to bring things to good and that’s not coming this week.
For the ilsnow nation,
Darrin
