“You might be a king or a little street sweeper, but sooner or later you dance with the reaper.” – Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey
I’m digging at the bottom of the barrel to find a little humor here. But it’s better than crying, I suppose. We did our dance with the reaper Christmas eve with nearly an inch-and-a-half of rain. We got some snow showers later on Christmas, but that scant dusting has already melted off.
It’s grizzly out there for sure, but I’m still holding onto about 5-6 inches of snow pack here at the ilsnow storm center. The usual exposed places have been melted down to dirt and rock. Indian Lake has risen over a foot in the past 24 hours, indicating lots of run-off throughout the water shed. So washouts on the trails are pretty much a given. Strong winds on Christmas made more blow-down.
Weekend Outlook:
If you’re desperate to scratch the itch, maybe you could see what Perkins Clearing or Moose River Plains holds for you. But that would be completely at your own risk and probably not worth traveling from any real distance to find out as the overall snow pack resembles Swiss cheese:
The safe and smart move would be to find something else to do this weekend.
Looking ahead…
No significant snow is on the immediate horizon, but it will be getting much colder next week. Hey, we gotta start somewhere.
For the ilsnow nation,
