Some light snow today around Indian Lake. Snow pack remains about 10-11 inches at the ilsnow.com storm center.
Perkins Clearing was reported to be a good ride away from the logging areas on the north side of Perkins Clearing Road.
There were reports of good riding in Moose River Plains over the weekend, especially through Cedar River Headquarters to Silver Run on the Indian Lake side.
Here’s a picture of some riders happy to be out last weekend:
There were various reports of mud-holes and blow-downs on the narrow woods trails throughout the central Adirondacks, so we’re not ready for prime time yet. But the past two weekends have been riding weekends, not bad for mid-December.
Midweek Outlook:
Tuesday will be your last call before things start going to pot on Christmas Eve. With rain and fog, we’re going to lose a lot of snow. Temperatures could punch into the 50s for a time while Santa delivers his presents:
ilsnow land may have a “White Christmas” with the remnant snow pack, but it’s going to be ugly with large patches of brown and green mixed in.
Unfortunately, it appears the storm will not produce significant lake effect snows its back side to bail out places in the western Adirondacks before the weekend. The winds are forecast to be rapidly shifting with only a gradual return to colder weather, not the stuff of lake effect legends.
Weekend Outlook:
I’m not seeing much reason for optimism for Friday or Saturday. We may get a snow event starting later Sunday, but that would be more of a help for the following week.
Bottom line: Get up here NOW if you want to nab a ride before Christmas! I can promise you that anything you’d encounter Tuesday will be light years better than what you’ll see after Christmas eve.
For the ilsnow nation,
Darrin
