We struggled through summer and fall to reach the prize: Snowmobiling season!
Friday night and Saturday’s mixed precipitation event did no harm. In most places, it was a couple inches of gunky snow with some ice and rain mixed in. Sunday’s colder temperatures froze everything up nice and tight.
Snow cover is 3-6 inches in most places. There may be somewhat more in the back reaches of Perkins Clearing and the higher elevations of Moose River Plains. For December 8th, we’re off to a pretty decent start.
Doesn’t look too bad in downtown Indian Lake either:
Midweek Outlook:
Perkins Clearing is being plowed for logging, so I would scratch that off your list for now. The local village trails around Indian Lake and Speculator are not ready for serious riding, although I’ve seen tracks from the locals.
At this point, it would be best to wait and see what happens with the storm for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday night. If we get hit with at least 6-12+ inches of snow during that time frame, Moose River Plains would be in serious play. At any rate, use caution for the usual early season hazards: fallen trees, loose rocks, washouts and water holes.
Lakes? Stay off them!
