Update 2/27/14: Indian Lake picked up an inch or two of snow today. Heard a report of a nasty hazard described as a crater on C8 about 5 miles before Cedar River Headquarters enroute to Moose River Plains. Be careful and be wary for frozen washout hazards!
Trail Report 2/26/14: I scored almost an inch of snow at the ilsnow.com storm center today. Saw a report of 2 inches out of Piseco. Some places in the southwestern Adirondacks, like Morehouse, probably picked up several inches of snow with the more persistent lake effect bands. Snow pack is generally 1-2 feet in the woods around Indian Lake and Speculator. Exposed open areas hold 6-12 inches of snow.
Trail conditions will be hard-packed and icy with a thin layer of powdery snow on top. Beware of frozen washouts and be especially careful if your snowmobile has an unstudded track. Lakes will be rough in places until we get enough snow to bury the frozen slush ruts.
Weekend Outlook:
With yet another Canadian Clipper for Thursday and modest snowfall expected late Saturday night into Sunday, the needle is pointing up for the weekend. I don’t see any home runs, but all snow helps as temperatures will be more than cold enough for the new snow to stick around.
