Indian Lake & Speculator area got 3-6 inches of fresh powder last night into Monday. Strong winds blew it around considerably though. This powder doesn’t do much for base building, but at least there is more loose snow for cooling and lube.
D.R.A.G. of Speculator has been doing their utmost to keep their trails in the best riding shape possible for the low snow conditions. But the base is thin around the village. Perkins Clearing and Powley Road are probably your best bets for sustained “good riding” around Speculator. Other narrow woods trails like Big Brook/Fawn Lake and between Oxbow Lake and Piseco Lake are likely in really rough shape. Keep an eye out for icy turns, wherever you ride!
Moose River Plains was reported to be ride-able, but with icy corners. Cedar River Headquarters to Silver Run had some rollers. The Inlet side was smoother, but the base was thin past Big-T enroute from the Limeklin Gate.
Indian Lake village trails are rideable, but need more snow. Watch for icy turns!
Newcomb trail was reported to be a pretty good ride. But good luck getting there via S84/Blue Mountain trail, with its rough stuff, narrow turns and icy spots.
NOTE: There is 24 hour gas at the Blue Mountain corner store and a brand new trail that takes you there, starting at the Blue Mountain Rest. They’re also serving food at the Blue Mountain Rest on Saturdays, so that’s something worth checking out as well!
Outlook:
With the possibility of multiple forms of precipitation (snow, ice and rain) on Saturday, you might be well served to cheat a bit and gun for a midweek ride if you can. The way things have gone this winter, you need to hit the snow when we have it.
