Wilder Performance

Lake effect

As the evening wears on, it has become apparent the heavy lake effect band is not going settle into an Old Forge, Inlet, Moose River Plains axis. Instead, it will “snow itself out” somewhere near Stillwater Reservoir overnight. Got a report of a foot-and-a-half plus near Harrisville in the far northwestern corner of the Adirondacks. Unfortunately, the lake effect guns were pointed a few degrees away from ilsnow land during the meat of this major lake-effect snow event. That made all the difference.

Old Forge reported 6-8 inches of new snow by Tuesday and the webcams around Inlet area showed about 3-6 inches, blown around like crazy. You can try to hit Inlet via Moose River Plains, but you’ll probably go through a set of carbides in the process and funnel stones into your tunnel.

A far better option would be to trailer over to Old Forge. You can ride around there, or head to parts up north in search of the deep stuff.

Better do this before the weekend, because it all starts going downhill again on Saturday with a shot of warmth and rain. And I don’t see an obvious candidate for significant snowfall on the horizon after this lake-effect snow shuts off.

I wouldn’t recommend bothering with anything around Indian Lake or Speculator right snow when other places have the good snow and we clearly don’t.
