Snowfall reports over the past 24-36 hours were an inch around Indian Lake, about 2 inches in Speculator and 3 inches in Morehouse. It continues to snow this morning with minor additional accumulations expected. Inlet and Moose River Plains appear to have a few inches. The southern end of Powley Road probably got several inches of snow, where the heaviest band of snow fell yesterday from the northern side of the Mohawk Valley into Fulton County.
Let’s see, my snowmobiling options for this weekend will be:
- Bang rocks on the village trails like Fred Flintstone working the quarry
- Spin off a loop or two in Perkins Clearing
- Do a season’s worth (or worse) of wear on my carbides and skis trying to make it across Moose River Plains to Inlet, perhaps even find a baseball-sized rock to toss around in my sled’s tunnel
- Take a chance on Powley Road
- Follow the maniacs to Tug Hill to find the snow
- Wait to ride another day
My decision will be to let the XP sit in the garage and wait for more snow. What option you choose is up to you.
By the way, here is a great way to find the best snow in the Tug Hill:

Finally, news about a large ice heave on Lake Pleasant:
I also got word of a large ice heave just off the Fourth Lake boat launch in Inlet. No one is riding Fourth Lake yet, but I just want to make people aware of it when the time comes…
