A public hearing with the Adirondack Park Agency is set for Tuesday, June 25th @ 6PM in the Indian Lake School Gymnasium to discuss possible classifications on the Gooley Club Property on former Finch, Pruyn & Company land that was just acquired by the State. This could provide many important recreational opportunities for the Towns of Indian Lake and Newcomb.
You can read the article from North Country Public Radio for some background.

A Wilderness classification would prohibit the use of snowmobiles while a Wild Forest classification would allow snowmobile use. The preservation extremists will be out to get most or all of that land to be classified as wilderness. That would be a dirty shame because the wilderness classification would force the State to shut down roads that have existed for over 100 years!
Opening up the Gooley Club for snowmobiling would create an excellent Indian Lake-Newcomb loop that would be a big winter drawing card for both towns. The former Finch land is large enough for ALL to enjoy. It is not just the select few who have the ability and determination to walk many miles through the woods. There is enough land “pie” to make everyone happy, but we must let the APA know that completely shutting out snowmobiling from the State’s new land acquisition would be an unacceptable abuse of taxpayer money.
