As expected, the extremely heavy holiday traffic has taken its toll on the trails. Anything I could see from the road late this afternoon was loaded with small bumps with snirty granular snow. In other words: The snow is tired!
While picking up dinner in town, I ran into Charlie Clark and his wife from Schaghticoke who were up riding. They told me that the Indian Lake inner village trails were somewhat rough from the weekend, but not the worst they’ve seen it. 42nd & Broadway was nice. S84/Blue Mountain trail was horribly rough and no fun. Newcomb trail was great on the Indian Lake side, but only fairly decent on the Newcomb side. Keep in mind that conditions can change rapidly, but that was a snapshot from today. If you spot me, please say “Hello!” I love to meet the folks who enjoy my website. 🙂
I haven’t heard any first hand report concerning Moose River Plains, but I can’t imagine its peaches and cream with the severely heavy traffic it got over the weekend.
Further south in Speculator, C4/Melody Lodge down to the village was very thin and icy, especially on the southern exposures. The rest of the trails seem to range from good to awful, depending on where and when the groomers are out.
Lakes have been great riding!
Midweek Snowmobiling Outlook:
With the traffic decreasing somewhat from the weekend frenzy, groomers will be able to make some progress this week. But the snow is tired and now we’re getting to the time of year when the sun can really eat away at roadside trails and southerly exposures, despite cold temperatures. We’ll get some sorely needed snow Tuesday/Wednesday, with possible significant lake effect snows over the western Adirondacks on Thursday. Beyond that, the weather pattern may support a meaningful buildup of snow cover before the end of February. That would be critical into carrying the riding well into March around here.
