I did some “drive-by” recon this afternoon. Overall, conditions are icy/marginal with about an inch of loose granular snow on top. Snow pack along the Route 30 corridor was mainly 8-16 inches, but the southerly exposed areas were burnt down to grass in places.
Perkins Clearing Area:
North end of Perkins Clearing Road was icy and flat with an inch of granular snow on top. Pleasant Riders and DRAG reported that Mossy Vly and Miami River flooded over, effectively closing off the back side of Perkins Clearing via Mud Lake Road and Jessup River Road. This will probably re-open this week as the rivers recede toward typical mid-winter levels.
Monday PM Update: Mossy Vly bridge is now reported OPEN! That means you can ride the Mud Lake/S41 trail from one end to the other to access the back side of Perkins Clearing. Miami River bridge on the Jessup River Road is still flooded, but should re-open at some point this week as the river recedes.
2 Miles from Hell: Roughed up from the weekend traffic, but 100% passable. Looks like it was groomed after it got cold again. The north (lower) end was chewed up to dirt in spots. There was better snow on the south (upper) end.
Indian Lake: A patchwork of glare ice and minimal snow cover.
Indian Lake Village:
Bear Trap Swamp was mostly frozen back up. There was some standing water on the east end of the swamp, but that was only several inches at the deepest.
Village trails were mainly icy, flat to occasional low bumps with an inch of snirty granular snow on them.
Midweek Outlook:
With a lack of significant snow for most of the week, it looks pretty much status-quo. At least the cold weather will continue to reduce runoff from last week’s Thaw. You can come up here to scratch the itch, but beware of icy conditions and frozen washouts. If we get meaningful snow on Friday, you’d do well to get up here and ride next weekend because the longer range forecast for mid-February looks a bit scary.
