Based on drive-by recon this evening, I can see that Ski Hut Trail, Bear Trap Swamp trail, Sabael trail and C8/enroute to Cedar River Headquarters were groomed today. S84/Blue Mountain trail and 42&Broadway were not groomed yet. The heavily traveled trails are snirty and most likely thin under the tall evergreens.
Got a report from someone who rode Moose River Plains on Monday: Headquarters to Silver Run, some rollers but pretty good overall. Silver Run to Big-T, very good with some snow/dirt mix on the turns. Big-T to Limekiln flat, but some stretches of snow/dirt and frequent carbide dragging. Monday night’s snow probably helped somewhat, but you will be scratching carbide if you want to make the run to Inlet.
People are riding the lakes, with about an inch or two of snow cover. Whether you join them is up to you.
Midweek Outlook:
No significant snow, but bitter cold and light midweek traffic will allow the trails to hold up well enough. Make sure you dress for survival when you come up and ride.
Extended Outlook:
A significant warm-up will occur next week as the present Arctic siege departs. Whether that warm-up enters the dreaded “Thaw” stage by Wednesday is not yet certain. Looking past that, colder weather will return before the end January and re-establish a good foot hold by early February. No big snows are on the immediate horizon, but we only need one good storm to get things to mid-winter prime.
