Snowmobiling Conditions for 1/20/13

Wilder Performance

I ran my snowmobile over to Adirondack Mountain Sports this afternoon to have them repair the damage from Friday’s ride. From what little I actually saw on the village trails, they were snirty and bony with considerable studder-chop, especially on the C8 spur out to Adirondack Mountain Sports.

Here is a report from Cal’s trip up to Newcomb on Satuday.

It was snowing very hard in spurts through the day and I picked up about 2 inches at the ilsnow.com storm center. Strong winds have whipped to snow into bare ground or crust in some places, while piling it up over ankle-deep in other places. Moose River Plains probably picked up several inches of snow.

Midweek Snowmobiling Outlook:

Watch out for blow down early this week until the groomers can make their passes.

If the groomers were out there working magic with barely any fresh snow last week, they should be able to work a minor miracle this week as fresh snow continues to gradually pile up. Until we get that significant dump of snow, you’ll continue to scrape carbide at times. At least finding enough fresh powder for cooling won’t be much of a problem now.

The highlight of the week will be the bitterly cold temperatures that are needed for the lakes to FINALLY make significant ice. A string of bitter cold days and sub-zero nights is just what the doctor ordered! Then, we could be looking at a good snow for Friday, just in time for the weekend.

Winter is far from dead: Keep doing the snow dance and keep your fingers crossed for Friday. 🙂
