Indian Lake Snowmobiling Update 1/12/13

Wilder Performance

Here’s the thing: I wasn’t going to go snowmobiling today. But working out at a gym right on the snowmobile trail sucked me right into it! It was KILLING me to hear and see snowmobiles constantly going by. So, after dinner I embarked on a night ride. Here’s what I found:

Inner Village Trails:

Plenty of low soft shredder bumps and worn to the dirt on some of the corners, but not that bad overall. My skis were clapping rocks every once in a while.

Sabael Trail:

Great ride from village intersection until Pashley Road. After the road crossing, enroute to Sabael was still a pretty good ride with some corners worn down to dirt. Some of the water holes have started to re-emerge. My skis were clapping rocks every once in a while.

C8 out to Headquarters:

I rode the section from Adirondack Mountain Sports out to Deer Valley parking lot. At the worst, there were small studder bumps and some corners worn down to dirt. But a lot of it was a really smooth and nice ride. If I had the inclination, I probably could have had a nice ride all the way out the Cedar River Headquarters. There were a few rocks sticking up through the base, but only one meaningful water hole.

S84 out to Blue Mountain:

The section from the end of Benton Road to Rock Lake marsh had soft lumps, But they were small enough and spaced far enough to permit a half-way decent ride. Past Rock Lake marsh, there were plenty of bumps and rollers. I surfed the bumps for a few minutes for the sake of a trail report, then turned tail and headed back to town.

42nd and Broadway:

I saved that one for dessert. Good choice on my part, because that trail was SWEET! It was a good way to conclude my ride.

Bottom Line:

Snow pack was a solid 12-18+ inches everywhere I went this evening. As painful as any January Thaw is, we’re going to survive this one. Unfortunately, we’ll experience some further deterioration with another warm day and a shot of rain Sunday night before we begin to stop the bleeding on Monday.

Keep the faith! Better times are around the corner.
