Snowmobiling Conditions for 12/27/12

Wilder Performance

The Great News:

We got bombed to the tune of OVER A FOOT of snow around Indian Lake and Speculator.

Weekend Outlook:

We’re swimming in snow! But you need to be really careful if you come here to go snowmobiling. The mud holes still need to freeze and the local woods trails will have typical early season hazards like water holes and fallen branches/trees until trail crews can work on the trails. I’m pretty sure that the groomers will begin to work their magic by the weekend, after helping to dig everybody else out. Moose River Plains, Powley Road and Perkins Clearing are the best bets to start, then you can work your way to the village trails. More snow is on the way for Saturday, although nothing like what we just got done with Thursday afternoon.

A Special Word on Lakes:

In a word: “DON’T!” I plead with you not to ride them. You might not have seen these lakes before we got all of the new snow, but I DID! They are unsafe for snowmobiling and will take longer to achieve ride-able thickness with the thick blanket of snow.

BOTTOM LINE:

You can ride here, but you gotta be smart about it or else your day can go from good to bad within an instant. Use your noggin for something besides a helmet rack and you’ll do fine. Great days are ahead!
