9:30AM Update
So far, so great! Most places in the central Adirondacks have picked up at least 3-6 inches of snow. Based on radar trends and higher elevations, I would think the section of Moose River Plains between Cedar River Headquarters and Silver Run is well on their way to a foot of snow before the end of today.
Remainder of Today:
The present mixture of snow, sleet and rain is expected to change back to all snow as the day wears on with additional accumulations.
Weekend Snowmobiling Outlook:
Your safest bet will be to trailer to the Brown’s Farm parking lot before the end of Cedar River Road then work your way into Moose River Plains via Headquarters. Conditions will be somewhat sloppy at first, then the base should “tighten” over the weekend as colder air becomes established. Additional snows on Saturday will add to the feel of winter! I’m not sure whether there will be any grooming yet, but at least we’re on the board!
The gates to Perkins Clearing Road are open, but beware of trucks and possible logging. Enter at your own risk!
In regards to the Speculator/Indian Lake village trails, let the locals beat themselves and pack the trails down for future snows. 🙂
Lakes:
Big lakes are still mostly open. Small lakes and ponds are frozen over, but unsafe. I probably don’t need to tell you, but I’ll say it anyway: “STAY OFF THE ICE!!”
